Which built-in Magento features does Hyvä support out of the box?

The free Hyvä Theme supports nearly every Magento Open Source storefront feature out of the box. That covers catalog browsing, layered navigation, the customer account and Page Builder content. Checkout is the main exception, because the theme ships without one. Adobe Commerce-only features need the paid Hyvä Enterprise add-on.

Quick answer

The Hyvä Theme is free and open source. It natively renders every core Magento product type, plus Page Builder content, wishlists and product compare. Checkout is not included: use the free Luma fallback module or the paid Hyvä Checkout. Adobe Commerce-only features, including the B2B suite and Live Search, need a Hyvä Enterprise license.

Magento features Hyvä supports out of the box

Hyvä rebuilds only the frontend. Magento’s backend stays as it is. Admin, catalog management, orders, promotions, indexing and backend-only extensions keep working unchanged. The rebuild swaps RequireJS, Knockout and Less for Tailwind CSS and Alpine.js.

Coverage below reflects Hyvä Theme 1.5.x, the current release line. On the storefront, the Hyvä Themes feature matrix lists these core features as implemented:

  • Category pages, layered navigation, catalog search, product compare and recently viewed products.
  • Every core product type: simple, configurable, bundle, grouped and downloadable.
  • The mini cart, cart page and coupon codes, plus the customer account with order history, address book and shareable wishlists.
  • CMS pages, blocks, widgets and Page Builder content, multi-store views, and transactional emails.

Native Page Builder support arrived in Hyvä Theme 1.1.9, per the theme module changelog.

Hyvä Theme 1.5.3, released in October 2026, dropped the default theme’s dependency on Magento’s GraphQL modules. Product reviews and recently viewed products now load through PHP and Ajax instead, per the default theme changelog. On older releases, keep the GraphQL modules from Hyvä’s installation guide enabled, or those features break.

Does the free Hyvä Theme include a checkout?

No. The free Hyvä Theme ships without a checkout, an approach Hyvä’s checkout documentation calls bring-your-own-checkout. There are three options:

  • Luma checkout fallback: the free hyva-themes/magento2-luma-checkout module renders Magento’s default checkout on the Luma theme. The rest of the store keeps running Hyvä. Luma-based third-party checkouts can also run through the same fallback, per Hyvä’s Luma checkout FAQ.
  • Hyvä Checkout: a paid, Magewire-based checkout built for Hyvä, listed at €1,000 on hyva.io. Payment and shipping modules need specific compatibility code for it.
  • React Checkout: an open source, community-supported checkout, free on GitHub, for teams with React experience.

The fallback works, but those pages run the Luma frontend. Checkout keeps Luma’s heavier JavaScript and needs separate styling to match your Hyvä design.

Adobe Commerce features that need Hyvä Enterprise

The free Hyvä Theme targets Magento Open Source. Hyvä Enterprise adds storefront compatibility for three groups:

  • Base Adobe Commerce functionality, such as content staging.
  • The B2B suite, including company accounts, shared catalogs, quotes and requisition lists.
  • Adobe services: Live Search, Product Recommendations and Data Connection.

Without a Hyvä Enterprise license, these Adobe Commerce features still work in the admin. No Hyvä storefront templates exist for them, so they either break or need custom frontend work.

Check Magento feature support before switching to Hyvä

  • Check every third-party extension against Hyvä’s compatibility module tracker. Backend-only modules generally work. Anything with storefront JavaScript usually needs a Hyvä compatibility module or built-in Hyvä support from the vendor.
  • Confirm each payment method works with your checkout: the Luma fallback, Hyvä Checkout or React Checkout.
  • Turn off Magento’s built-in CAPTCHA before launch. The reCAPTCHA docs say Hyvä doesn’t support it, and forms fail while it stays on. Use Google reCAPTCHA v2 or v3 instead.
  • Recheck Hyvä’s live feature matrix for your exact Hyvä Theme version, since coverage changes between releases.

For most Magento Open Source stores, the free Hyvä Theme covers every storefront feature except checkout. The real decision is which checkout to run. On Adobe Commerce, budget for Hyvä Enterprise if you rely on B2B or Live Search. Our Hyvä theme development team can review your feature and extension list before you commit.
