Is Hyvä Checkout included with a Hyvä theme licence?
Hyvä Checkout is not included with any Hyvä Theme licence, whether an older paid one or a free theme key. Hyvä Checkout is a separate Magento 2 module that installs from its own Private Packagist repository. Each Magento installation needs its own Hyvä Checkout licence.
Quick answer
No, the Hyvä Theme has been free since November 10, 2025, but Hyvä Checkout remains a paid add-on. Hyvä Checkout costs a one-time €1,000 per Magento installation. Hyvä Checkout updates need a plan chosen at purchase: €250 a year from year two, or €1,000 for five years. Only Hyvä Commerce, at €3,000 a year, bundles Hyvä Checkout in.
How much does Hyvä Checkout cost?
Prices below, come from the Hyvä Checkout page and Hyvä’s pricing and licensing FAQ.
| Option | Cost | Includes Hyvä Checkout? |
|---|---|---|
| Hyvä Theme | Free (open source) | No |
| Hyvä Checkout (standalone) | €1,000 one-time, plus a support and update plan | Yes, for one Magento installation |
| Hyvä Commerce | €3,000 per year | Yes, alongside Theme, UI, CMS and admin tools |
| Hyvä Enterprise | €7,500 per year | Yes, via the included Hyvä Commerce, plus Adobe Commerce feature support |
Hyvä made the Hyvä Theme free and open source on November 10, 2025. Anyone who paid for the theme before then keeps Hyvä UI and premium support.
What can you use instead of Hyvä Checkout?
Hyvä’s checkout options documentation describes the Hyvä Theme as a “bring your own checkout” theme. You choose one of three routes:
- Hyvä Checkout, the paid module covered on this page.
- Magento’s standard Luma checkout, through Hyvä’s
hyva-themes/magento2-luma-checkoutmodule. Third-party checkouts built for Luma typically work through the same theme fallback. - React Checkout, a community project on GitHub with no official Hyvä support. Per Hyvä’s React Checkout FAQ, older guides may still call React Checkout “Hyvä Checkout”, its original name.
What does a Hyvä Checkout licence cover?
These terms come from the Hyvä Checkout product page.
- Scope: One Magento installation, with unlimited store views and domains for the same business entity. The licence also covers development and staging environments.
- Updates and support: You pick a support and update plan when you buy. The plan costs either €250 a year from year two, or a one-off €1,000 for five years.
- If the plan lapses: You keep the Hyvä Checkout versions released within 12 months of purchase, but lose access to newer ones.
- Agencies: One licence and one plan per client.
- Trial: Hyvä offers no free trial. A 30-day money-back policy applies instead.
What does Hyvä Checkout need to run?
- Your store must already run Hyvä Theme 1.3.12 or newer. Hyvä Checkout depends on the theme even though Composer doesn’t pull it in, according to the Hyvä Checkout installation docs. The free theme key from your hyva.io account is enough for this.
- Hyvä Checkout 1.3.0 and later also require the CSP Nonce Provider, per Hyvä’s installation docs.
- The rest of your storefront can stay on Luma. Per the Hyvä Checkout FAQ, theme fallback lets only the checkout use the Hyvä default theme.
- Payment and shipping extensions built for Luma rarely work out of the box. Hyvä lists support for PayPal, Mollie, Stripe, Adyen, Braintree and Payplug. Check anything else against Hyvä’s integration list before buying.
- On Adobe Commerce, B2B and other Adobe-specific checkout features need Hyvä Enterprise. Hyvä states this coverage is not yet complete.
Should you buy Hyvä Checkout alone or Hyvä Commerce?
For one store, standalone Hyvä Checkout costs €1,000 in year one, against €3,000 a year for Hyvä Commerce. Hyvä Commerce only justifies the extra €2,000 if you will use Hyvä CMS and the admin tools. Hyvä UI, also part of Commerce, costs €250 on its own.
