How many domains or stores does one Hyvä licence cover?
One paid Hyvä licence covers every domain and country store you run from a single Magento admin. Hyvä counts installations, not storefronts. The core Hyvä Theme needs no paid licence at all.

What counts as one Magento installation for Hyvä licensing?
The Hyvä Software User License treats one Magento or Adobe Commerce instance as one installation. That holds even when it runs across several web servers. In practice, it means one codebase and one admin.
A UK site, an EU site and four language store views in one Magento admin need one licence. The same applies to a brand serving retail and wholesale customers through separate store views on one install.
You need a second licence when you run a second, separate Magento installation. For example, a B2B portal running as its own instance beside the retail site counts separately.

Can one Hyvä licence cover staging, agencies or SaaS?
- A paid Hyvä licence also covers staging and development environments.
- Every domain on a Hyvä licence must belong to the same business entity.
- Agencies need a separate licence for each client store, since each client runs its own installation. An agency can transfer a Hyvä Commerce licence bought for testing to the client.
- Running a multivendor marketplace or SaaS platform on Hyvä Checkout? That setup needs custom licensing from Hyvä.
- Hyvä expects at least one production domain registered against your licence in your Hyvä customer account. Link new public domains there as you add them.
Is the Hyvä Theme free now?
Yes. Since Hyvä Theme 1.4, released on 10 November 2025, the theme has been free and open source. Before that release, it was a paid, per-installation licence.
Hyvä relicensed it under OSL 3.0 and AFL 3.0, the same dual licence Magento Open Source uses. You can now run the theme on as many installations as you like. Hyvä Theme 1.4 is on GitHub, and each Hyvä account can claim up to five free Packagist keys.

How many Hyvä licences do you need?
Each separate Magento installation needs its own paid Hyvä licence. Before you buy, count your installations. Domains and store views don’t change the number.
